“During my NIST SURF experience [in Boulder, Colorado], I was able to complete two projects in web development. For the first, I developed a web application to be used in microbiology for calculation Limits of Detection (LODs); this project used front-end calculation to graph the output of an LOD equation based on input parameters. My second project, called Statistical App Generator, is a tool written in Python that will create a web application that runs some user-provided function. This application converts a basic template into a detailed app from only a configuration file and calculation function.
This experience offered a different environment than I am used to, surrounding me with researchers and other students researching totally different fields of science from myself. I also learned a lot about developing software independently all the way from conception to completion, a skill which built on what I learned in Software Engineering on campus.”
