Proposal Checklist

CSC399 Proposal Check List

This check list is based on “The Internship: Statement of Purpose,” linked on the course page, and additional CS department requirements. Make sure that your proposal satisfies all of the requirements.

  1. Includes the number of credit hours from any previous internship. If this is a second internship experience, you will need to explain how this experience is different from the previous one (see the TCNJ Internship Policy).
  2. Includes the number of credit hours for the proposed internship [Standard: 4 credit hours]
    • Includes the estimated number of hours (200 hours required)
    • Includes the estimated start and end dates
    • Specify when this experience is registered
  3. Explains exactly how credits are to be earned and what on-the-job activities will be required of the intern
    • States what classroom experience you will be applying to the internship [copy your internship statement]
    • Lists your internship goals
    • Note: You goals must be relevant to some principles in computer science or its application. It is in general not sufficient to list technical tasks, which a computer technician with no CS background can follow and accomplish.
  4. Describes the method of evaluating the internship
    • Identifies evaluation criteria for each goal
    • Note: The evaluation criteria must be reasonably specific so that you, the on-site professional, and the faculty supervisor can verify whether you have accomplished the goal. The learning goals and the associated evaluation criteria will be included in your evaluation form (see the internship page for more info).
  5. Identifies the firm or agency where the internship will be done
  6. Identifies the professional person at the firm or agency who will supervise the student during the internship
    • Includes the e-mail and phone of the professional person
    • Includes the street address of internship site where you and the professional person actually work (i.e., do not give the address of the headquarters)
  7. Includes a statement about an on-site visit by a supervising faculty member
    • Note: If the internship site is beyond the driving distance from the College, state the fact and request a wavier.
