Intern Spotlight: Emmanuel Pasteur, Comcast

Emmanuel Pasteur, Class of 2025

Cybersecurity Intern

“This summer, I dived head first into the cybersecurity field with an internship as an Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) Intern at Comcast NBCU. This role and this internship taught me a lot overall about the career paths within cyber, and it gave me the courage to continue my journey through it. Being in the EDR, I got to work with both the Crowdstrike and CyberSync teams. With Crowdstrike, I analyzed computer and server agents that were unresponsive and learned how to fix them for company compliance standards. It can be something as simple as the machines no longer being used or the installed agents themselves not being updated to their latest version. Something that can make them susceptible to active attacks. I also witnessed a purple team exercise, where members of the red and blue teams were brought together to perform their quarterly simulation tests. This is a well-known practice that’s done to proactively allow organizations to find and patch vulnerabilities within their systems.

With the CyberSync team, I improved my Python data analysis skills using the Pandas library. One idea that was reinforced for me in this team was how to create solutions that scale, not just to 100 end-points, but perhaps millions on a typical day. For my roles specifically, I would say that the Information Systems Security course taught by Dr. DeGood, and my Introduction to Data Science mini-course taught by Dr. Russo helped me get the most out of my internship. Lastly, I met a lot of amazing students from other schools and got a chance to know them more through some of our trips like doing mini golf, going to the museum, and even walking around the city. My internship would not have been as fun without them.”
